About Brush & Blot Studio

Hi there!

I have had a passion for drawing, designing and being creative, in general, for as long as I can remember. But I never honestly imagined I would one day be able to do it for a living. It was a hobby. A leisurely pursuit. A way I could lose myself for a few hours. But more importantly, it became a kind of saviour. But wait, I digress. Let’s go back a little…

My name is Pam. Pammy. Or, if you please, Pamela Heather, when I’m in trouble for spilling the sugar on the counter. Again.

I hail from the “City of Gold”. No, not El Dorado, but Johannesburg, South Africa. Colloquially, known as Jozi, Joburg or Egoli, this world-class African city is a veritable utopia for anyone with a creative inclination. With its exquisite cuisine, fine wines and vibrant heritage, it was a true privilege to spend half my life in this melting pot of cultures. It inspires you. It gives you a fierce resilience. A zest for life. A bright and determined cheeriness that you carry with you, for the rest of your life. Once Africa has touched your heart, she never leaves you, even if you move to the opposite side of the world, as I did.

I immigrated to England in the early noughties, and spent nearly two decades building a career in Optical Retail Management. I worked in a fantastic profession and made lifelong friends along the way. I was content with my life.

But life, it seems, had other plans…

In early 2022, after a bout of Covid, which brought along with it Pneumonia, Severe Asthma and a collapsed lung, I ended up in a coma. This state was, fortunately, short-lived, but the damage was done and my life was changed forever.

It’s here, that our story begins…

A present of an iPad and Apple Pencil to pass the endless hospital stays, was an unwitting Gift of the Magi. Drawing became my solace over two years of painful recovery, helping me through the most frightening and challenging time in my life. It became, quite frankly, a friend of sorts; for which I am incredibly grateful.

I decided as one does, in moments of enlightenment, that I had spent all my working years working for someone else’s dream. It was now my turn. And so, Brush & Blot Studio was born. With the purpose of sharing my particular brand of sunshine with the world.

You will find my art is bright, jolly, unique and sometimes whimsical.  Inspired by my love for coffee, food, books, gardening and locations that fascinate me. Some of my absolute favourite places, are the beautiful city of London, my garden and my country of birth, South Africa.

Primarily, I work digitally. All my designs are hand drawn. I print my own ceramics, coasters, art prints and fabrics using a process called Sublimation. Stationary items are outsourced to a local printing house.

When I’m not working on my art, I can be found baking (because I’ve never met a cake I didn’t like). I love a great Gin & Tonic, salt and vinegar Pringles, sipping oat milk lattes, binge watching Bridgerton and adding to my ever-growing house plant collection. Although, not necessarily in that order.

So now that we’re acquainted, I hope you enjoy my art as much as I love creating it.

May this be the start of a beautiful friendship.
